Award Winning Detroit Shoreway Neighborhood
The Detroit Shoreway neighborhood is experiencing a renaissance as a place to live, work, and play. With small businesses, residents, city government, foundations and non-profits supporting the continued development of the neighborhood, nearly $500 million is being invested in this lakefront community. The neighborhood has recently been honored with three awards highlighting the investments that have been made.

2010 Preservation Award
Cleveland Restoration Society & American Institute of Architects (Cleveland & Akron)
The Capitol Theatre has been selected to receive a 2010 Preservation Award from the Cleveland Restoration Society and the American Institute of Architects (AIA), Cleveland & Akron chapter. The Capitol will be recognized at the 2010 preservation awards ceremony, Celebration of Preservation , to be held on Tuesday, May 20, 2010 from 5:30 – 8:00 PM at the Hanna Theatre. The Celebration of Preservation is held by the Restoration Society, AIA Akron and AIA Cleveland every May, which is Historic Preservation Month. Exemplary projects and individuals who have made significant investments in the revitalization of Northeast Ohio are recognized.
2010 Ohio Nonprofit Excellence Award
Ohio Association of Nonprofit Organizations
Each year nonprofit organizations around Ohio dedicate limited resources to providing valuable programs and services in their communities. The Ohio Nonprofit Excellence Award recognizes the creativity, execution, achievement, and overall excellence of a specific project or program completed by an Ohio nonprofit in 2009. Detroit Shoreway was honored on May 11 at an Ohio Statehouse Rotunda luncheon in Columbus.
Gordon Square Arts District
2010 Cleveland Arts Prize
The Gordon Square Arts District was awarded the 2010 Cleveland Arts Prize, an award typically reserved for individuals. The Cleveland Arts Prize is usually given to creative artists whose work enriched Northeast Ohio and whose accomplishments set a standard of excellence. The Gordon Square Arts District, which is using the arts as a tool for economic development, is being honored for its vision and influence to revitalize the Detroit Shoreway neighborhood. The award will be presented on June 26 at the Cleveland Museum of Art.
Gordon Square Arts District leaders include Ward 15 Councilman Matt Zone, Gordon Square Arts District (GSAD) Executive Director Joy Roller, Detroit Shoreway Community Development Organization (DSCDO) Executive Director Jeff Ramsey, Cleveland Public Theatre (CPT) Executive Director Raymond Bobgan, Near West Theatre Executive Director Stephanie Morrison-Hrbek, Cleveland Housing Court Judge Raymond Pianka, (founding director of DSCDO), James Levin, founding director of CPT, GSAD honorary chairs Albert Ratner, Richard Pogue, and Tom Sullivan, and GSAD Board Chairman Larry Schultz. All will be honored for their work at the June presentation.
