Three Gen-Yers join forces to make a difference in the world after a random experience brings them together. Their efforts to "help the world" range from the naive to the sublime. In a world inundated with global information (and global suffering), self-help and spiritual panaceas, and contradictory common values, People4Change examines the frustration, isolation, and passion of young professionals in North America.

Please join us for this opportunity to evaluate the aspects of fund-raising, doing good, and making an impact on the world.  People4Change examines a world in which people do not feel empowered to make a difference.  Raymond Bobgan, Executive Director of CPT, has incorporated his own perspective and experiences working with Community Shares into this production, as well as the perspectives of the actors in the show.  During this work-in-progress showing, he invites reflection, discussion, and feedback of the performance.

Domestic Violence Center

Source of Strength and Hope:

This past year, the Domestic Violence Center received 18,246 calls on its 24 hour hotline, housed 317 residents in its shelter facility, and held 334 support groups. DVC also reached 11,337 individuals through its Community Education and Speakers Bureau to educate them about domestic violence and prevention.  A support group member, after attending support sessions, said, "Coming to this group has helped me through rough times, helped me get strong enough to do what I needed to, and gave me hope!"

Northeast Ohio Coalition for the Homeless

Making Legislative Progress for Affordable Housing:

In response to a research project conducted in 2007 on affordable housing, NEOCH appointed a task force to move this concept forward to create a dedicated revenue source in a local Housing Trust Fund. The task force worked throughout 2008 on a plan and a source of funding to build affordable housing.  In May 2009, the Cuyahoga County Commissioners approved the concept of seeking state authority to create a County Housing Trust Fund.  Currently, a Board is being created with a goal of raising $10 to $12 million per year for affordable housing.  NEOCH's goal is to pass the state legislation in 2010 with revenue available in 2011.

Near West Theatre

Identity through Involvement:

Near West Theatre truly inspires and offers an opportunity for people of all ages to nurture their sense of identity and strenghten their purpose as individuals and as a community. NWT was able to bring four productions to the community in 2009: West Side Story, Finian's Rainbow, Once On This Island, and Sweeney Todd School Edition. Each production involved 120-150 volunteers of all ages. A teen invovled in one production said, "Near West is a home to me - at times, more than my actual home. It is where I really discover who I am, and I love it."

Slavic Village Development

By the Numbers:

In the last year, Slavic Village Development demolished over 100 vacant and condemned homes, organized 15 neighborhood cleanups involving 550 residents, provided gas and energy assistance to over 3000 people, and established 4 new businesses in the area.  SVD also repainted 60 homes, planted a new community garden with 22 gardeners, provided technical support to over 60 businesses, hosted 6 bicycle events, and coordinated 9 park events.
