- Shares kicks off e-newsletter
We at Community Shares are always looking for new ways to connect with our member organizations and donors. It is our mission to build strong relationships among those working for social justice in the Greater Cleveland Community, and we hope this newsletter will encourage and facilitate communication. Look to the newsletter for news and information about events in the community and feel free to submit announcements of your own. - Online site presents networking opportunities with youth
Facebook is a social networking site originally developed for college students wishing to connect with other college students. Due to its overwhelming popularity with this demographic, it has been expanded to include everyone with an e-mail address, whether at a high school, work site, or other organization. With its enormous capacity to reach young people, Shares believes Facebook is a valuable tool for promoting awareness of social issues in the youth of Greater Cleveland. Community Shares' "group page" describes our organization, its mission and our member groups. Facebook us! Go to www.facebook.com and create a profile. Then, join our "group" and network with other socially concerned individuals.
- Annual meeting 2007 marks another great year
On Tuesday, June 19th, over 150 advocates for social justice gathered in the Cleveland Public Theatre for Community Shares' Annual Meeting. Amidst the wine, the hors d'oervres and the stage performances, an air of excitement, dedication and commitment filled the Theatre, as those in attendance celebrated a year of successes and discussed plans for the future. One of the highlights of the evening was the awards ceremony recognizing outstanding members of the Shares community:
David Rothstein, Policy Matters Ohio--Distinguished Activist
Jim Rokakis, Cuyahoga County Treasurer--Eleanor R. Gerson Leadership in Social Justice
Deaf & Deaf-Blind Committee on Human Rights--Social Justice Member of the Year
Becky Gaylord and Sheryl Harris, Cleveland Plain Dealer--Social Justice Reporting
Mary Zaller, The LGBT Community Center of Greater Cleveland, Volunteer of the Year
