DEVELOPMENT INTERN

Community Shares, founded in 1985, is a nonprofit fundraising federation that provides an independent source of funds for 40 Cleveland-area social justice organizations. We provide increased choice for employees within workplace giving campaigns, resulting in increased funding for important local nonprofits. Through advocacy, education and empowerment, our member organizations work to address the root causes of problems facing our community.

Community Shares keeps administrative fees low (15%) on donations made through the annual workplace giving campaign by engaging in a variety of additional development activities throughout the year intended to support Community Shares’ operations. These include foundation grants, a major gifts program, direct mail, corporate gifts, and special events. The Development Intern will assist in planning and executing these development activities.

TASKS MAY INCLUDE:

  • Foundation Research - Community Shares seeks to expand and improve relationships with current and new funders. The Development Intern will conduct research on local and national foundations, proposing prospective funders for Community Shares’ programmatic and general operating needs. • Corporate Philanthropy Research - The organization seeks to diversify funding of its operations by soliciting new support from the corporate community. The Development Intern will conduct research on local corporate giving programs, identifying proper contacts and processes for requesting donations. The Intern will assist in developing a menu of corporate giving opportunities and drafting proposals.
  • Special Events - The Development Intern will assist in planning and implementing several special events, including the Annual Meeting on June 18 and another small fundraiser to be determined.
