PUBLIC RELATIONS / COMMUNICATIONS INTERN
Community Shares, founded in 1985, is a nonprofit fundraising federation that provides an independent source of funds for 40 Cleveland-area social justice organizations. We provide increased choice for employees within workplace giving campaigns, resulting in increased funding for important local nonprofits. Through advocacy, education and empowerment, our member organizations work to address the root causes of problems facing our community.
The intern will assist with internal and external communication aimed at increasing awareness of Community Shares among the boards of our member organizations, the general public, community opinion leaders and the media.
TASKS MAY INCLUDE:
- Drafting and updating Community Shares’ written materials, PSAs, articles and news stories
- Assisting in obtaining media coverage
- Assisting with writing and producing newsletters, drafting press releases, etc.
- Assisting the PR/Communications Committee
- Building and maintaining a media contact database
- Facilitating communications among Community Shares and its members
- Maintaining a file of member organizations’ accomplishments and successes to be used in marketing materials
SKILLS:
- Familiar with Windows-based word processing, basic databases and desktop publishing (PageMaker a plus)
- Able to write effectively
- Able to take good notes and transcribe them accurately; a good listener
- Organized and deadline-oriented
Internships are 200 hours; schedules are flexible; a small stipend may be available. Resumes are accepted year-round.
