ABOUT COMMUNITY SHARES

Greater Cleveland Community Shares is Cleveland's only social advocacy workplace giving federation. Created in 1985 by 13 grassroots community- based advocacy organizations, Community Shares' purpose is to advance social justice by providing our 36 member organizations with a steady and growing source of operating income through workplace charitable giving campaigns.

Funding Solutions for Community Problems

Community Shares' member agencies are joined by a common mission: to address the root causes of social problems facing our neighborhoods, our community, and our region. Community Shares agencies provide education, promote health care, protect children and women, advance home ownership, train workers and find employment, build neighborhoods, and work to end discrimination. Our philosophy of change is based on education, advocacy and empowerment.

Working with the Support of Employers in Greater Cleveland

Currently, over 160 area employers include Greater Cleveland Community Shares in their annual workplace charitable campaigns. These companies have recognized that expanding employee choice is an easy and effective way to express to their employees -- and the community -- that they support a sense of corporate responsibility and social and civic involvement.

An Efficient, Effective and Established Employee Giving Program

For 20 years Greater Cleveland Community Shares has been raising funds for its member agencies through workplace charitable campaigns. As a member based organization, Community Shares keeps administrative costs to a minimum, making every contribution more responsive to community needs. Community Shares is a member of The National Alliance for Choice in Giving and The National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy.

Community Shares is governed by a Board of Directors that includes representatives from member organizations as well as Community Directors who collectively keep Shares focused on its mission: Supporting social justice organizations through workplace giving programs and other philanthropic initiatives.
